Secrets of Green & Gold
SERIES: The Immortal Voices: Green & Gold
An immortal race needs her help … if she believes they exist.
ABOUT THE STORY:
Cara thought she’d finally learned to ignore the animals no one else sees. A new school in the fall feels like a dream come true—new faces, a fresh start. She should have known it was doomed the minute she heard the first voice.
Now there’s a strange gleam in her dog’s eyes, two suspicious guys showing up wherever she goes, and a whisper in her head that won’t leave her alone. It tells her of a hidden race of immortal beings known as the Pyx. Cara does her best to ignore it…and the others who join in. Fitting in is hard enough without the local wildlife chatting in her mind.
But the voices are insistent. Across Portland, Pyx are disappearing, and Cara may be the only one who can help them. As strange encounters pile up, she begins to wonder if the only way to stop the voices is to start listening.
The only problem is, if the Pyx are real, then so is the danger. And Cara has no idea how to save them…or herself.

Excerpt
Cara was on her feet again before she knew what had happened. She stood in the corner by the door, looking around with her back pressed to the wall. Her eyes searched the room for who had spoken, for something to use as a weapon, anything. She was ready to bolt if she needed to.
There didn’t seem to be anyone else here. The room was empty. Jenner lay calmly in the corner, looking at her with curiosity but not concern. Even though he wasn’t a guard dog, he would certainly have reacted to someone speaking.
“Apologies. I didn’t mean to startle you, child. You’re in no danger.”
There it was again. The voice came from nowhere and everywhere all at once, almost like it was coming from inside her own head.
She yanked open the closet door. She flung the clothes aside, peering behind the hangers and searching the space below. There was nothing there. She crouched down to peer under the bed. Nothing.
Uh oh. Cara’s heart pounded. You’re hearing voices. That can’t be good.
Cara took several steadying breaths and tried to think. It was difficult. Her brain kept skipping all over the place. In mere seconds, her mind had revisited every odd thing she’d ever seen and experienced. She even remembered some she had managed to forget and some she wasn’t sure she had noticed at the time.
Taking a deep breath and summoning all her courage, she spoke out loud. “Who’s there? Who are you?”
She desperately hoped there would be no answer.
“It is a wonderful book… one of this books that entice you right with the cover (wonderful) and hold everything it promises. A great beginning in a new YA fantasy series.”
“This is a great story and with more books to come in this series, it’ll be fun to see where these enemies to friends go as they look for other animals who have these special beings also residing within them!“
“I really enjoyed reading this book! I really liked the main character Cara. She’s very likeable and she’s a strong character and very determined. The story is well written and full of suspense and intrigue. This is definitely a book worth reading!”
