Defiance in Green & Gold (Book Five)

Series: The Immortal Voices

Running is what Cara’s good at. But even she can’t run forever. It’s time to fight back.

ABOUT THE STORY:

An evil immortal has taken everything from Cara—the guy she’s falling for, the trust of her best friend, and nearly her life. Twice. Now, with both human and Pyx allies at her side, she’s done running. It’s time to fight.

Her best friend steadies her, her boyfriend strengthens her heart, and her uncle knows more than he’s letting on. Cara will need every bit of their strength to challenge the enemy. Because if they don’t stop him, billions could die.

Only . . . no one knows where he’s hiding, nor how he plans to destroy so much humanity. But his followers are growing while Cara’s powers are still unstable, and they need an alternate plan to save the dying planet if they want any hope of ending this.

To save the world we all share, Cara will need more than courage. She needs answers—fast. Because hope alone won’t be enough to win this fight.

Excerpt

She could feel them pulling at her, hoping. Somehow, she’d become a drug to them, and they needed their next hit of whatever she’d done that night that brought them here. She swallowed hard, unable to look at them any longer. If only she had someone to look to or follow that way. But she didn’t, so how was she supposed to be that for them?

If the world needed a hero, then the universe probably shouldn’t have chosen a seventeen-year-old with another year of high school ahead of her and no idea what to do with the rest of her life… assuming she got to live it.

Some other Pyxsee would have been a better choice. Any other Pyxsee. Her uncle had the age and experience. He knew other Pyxsees all over the world. He was far more capable than her, so why was she the one stuck with this ability that always sounded more powerful than it felt?

As off balance as she felt—as unsteady on her feet—Jenner nearly knocked her over when he jumped up to place his front paws on her chest. “Do you need a moment, child?” Jenyx asked.

She could read between the lines. He was saying her emotions were running away with her, and now all the Pyx who had come here to help were getting a huge insight into exactly how useless and inadequate she actually felt. She had to get out of here or they’d be running back to Messoryx, lamenting the error in their judgment. Even if she’d known what to say, her throat had gone too dry to speak.

“Highly recommended for readers of all ages – a thought provoking read for the whole family. You will laugh, and cry, and wonder about the animals in your neighborhood. You might even be inspired to make a few small changes to benefit your environment.”

- Erika

The author did a lovely job of wrapping up the series. The message in this Eco-Fiction series is not one that beats you over the head, rather it makes helping the environment seem manageable for the individual.

- Amanda

“A fantastic tale that conveys that feeling of awe and amazement of classical fantasy books and can be enjoyed by young readers and adults alike, anyone who enjoys the idea of being immersed into a world inhabited with characters that feel as real as they can be. Fantasy as it should be… ambitious but unpretentious, a great escape in a world full of wonder.”

- Katheyer
